Open defecation unacceptable’ – Mahama

President John Mahama has challenged Ghanaians to adhere to strict environmental cleanliness in order to check the spread of the Cholera disease. According to him, the government alone cannot succeed in the fight against the disease if citizens refuse to play their role by ensuring cleanliness in their surroundings. He also bemoaned what he said is the failure of the various district assemblies in managing garbage in their localities. It is Government’s responsibility and the responsibility of the District Assemblies and the Regional Coordinating Councils,  to move  garbage after they have been deposited at the right place but unfortunately they are not doing so. So far, over 1,000 cholera cases have been reported at health facilities in seven out of the 10 regions with more 100 deaths recorded within the last three months since the outbreak was first reported in Accra.
