The
Presidential spokesperson, Ben Dotse Malor has said that without the support of
Ghanaians, President John Mahama cannot drive the nation towards prosperity.
According to him, President Mahama is working hard to make Ghana economically
self-sufficient. He stated that the President’s recent management and economic
decisions will soon begin to turn the country’s economic fortunes around. But
Malor appealed for support for the President to find workable solutions to the
country’s challenges saying, “I think we who are behind the President need to
also be changing our mindsets to be solution finders,”
The nation has in recent months,
been facing economic challenges which has seen a significant depreciation of
the Ghana cedi, high inflation rate, irregular utility supply, fuel price hikes, among others. These challenges
have burdened citizens with hardships while businesses are struggling to
survive. The frustrations of Ghanaians were expressed through
various
demonstrations
aimed at pressurizing the government to urgently find solutions to the nation’s
economic problems. The government subsequently is seeking a bailout
from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help stabilize the economy. A team of IMF
officials are expected in the country to map out
a strategy to lead to economic recovery. Nonetheless, Mr. Malor in an interview
with Citi News said the President is optimistic things will
change by the end of the year. According to him, the President is thinking of
reducing the importation of products in order to promote the use of made in
Ghana goods. Malor continued saying, President Mahama is supporting every
effort to make it possible for us to have our own rice, made in Ghana rice,
have our own poultry; he is promoting all these things.”
