Outspoken Northern Regional Chairman
of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel
Bugri Naabu has
taken a swipe at some Members of Parliament in the region, describing them as
“errand boys”. He claimed majority of MPs in the Northern Region who have been
in the House for ages, still lack the parliamentary antics to lobby for
projects for their constituencies. Mr. Naabu was addressing a large gathering
on the occasion of the annual Yam Festival celebrated by the chiefs and people
of Bunbong-Naayili, predominantly a Konkomba farming settlement in the Yendi
Municipality. He challenged the MPs in the region to let the voices of their
constituents who are virtually poor be heard on the floor of parliament. Daniel
Bugri Naabu thus charged northern electorates to “change position” in 2016 by
rejecting those he referred to as “incompetent MPs.” According to him, it will
be in the interest of the people in the region to vote for MPs who think more
developmental. He cited Deputy Minority leader, Hon. Dominick Nitiwul to
buttress his point that the NPP have the men to deliver in Parliament. Even
though the Northern Region contributes significantly to Ghana’s food basket, it
is also considered one of the poorest in the country. This is one of the reasons
the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) initiated the Savannah
Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) to alleviate poverty in this area.
