Airborne Force Commander appeals to factions in Bawku conflicts to rejoin negotiation table



Commander of Airborne Force at Bawa Barracks in the Northern region, Lt. Col. Joe Malik Punamane has appealed to feuding faction in the Bawku conflict who left the negotiation table to rejoin in order get a lasting solution to the conflict. According to him, negotiation is the only means of getting lasting solution to the protracted conflict in the area. Lt. Col. Joe Punamane was speaking at a handing over ceremony at Bawa barracks in Tamale yesterday. Lt. Col. Joe Malik Punamane is taking over the helm of affairs as the commander of Airborne Force in the Northern region from Col. Twum Ampofo Gyekye which has an oversight security responsibility over the two upper regions of the country. The commander further called on residents of Bawku to remain calm and cooperate with the security to deal with the situation in the area. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the outgoing Commander, Col Twum Ampofo Gyekye stated that, the people of the North should endeavor to support the security agencies to ensure peace in the area which he believes will attract investors to the poorer regions of the country. Col. Twume who has served for the past years charged officers to discharge their duties professionally in order to promote and protect the integrity of the country the Forces. Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Northern regional minister in his address commended Col. TwumAmpofo for his dedicated service to the people of the region since his reign as the commanding officer of the Airborn Force in the region. He was hopeful Lt. Col. Joe Malik Punamane will continue the good work done by his predecessor in promoting peace and promoting security in this part of the country.
