The Kumasi High Court has granted injunction to restrain the
National Democratic Congress from proceeding with its Ashanti regional
executives elections. It follows two law suits against the party’s National and
Regional Executive Committees by a former students' leader in the Ashanti
region, Linus Njonolah and another member of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency in
the Greater Accra region. The party’s Deputy General Secretary, Kofi Adams
recently mentioned that the party had suspended the process of electing new
regional executives as a result of the lawsuits. Mr. Adams says,
that even though many of the regions were ready for the elections they could
not go further than to put it on hold. Explaining further, Mr. Adams mentioned
that some persons in the party felt aggrieved by a few clauses regarding a
person’s qualification for the regional executive position. Statement of Claim by Linus Njonolah, former
president of Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of NDC.
