The
Ghana Medical Association has reiterated its calls on government to suspend the
capitation mode of payment of the National Health Insurance Scheme in the
Ashanti region. The Medical Association also asked government to ensure the
capitation is not rolled onto other regions since it has failed woefully in the
Ashanti region. Addressing a myriad of Concerns at a press conference at weekend
end after the 4th National Executive Council meeting in Tamale, the
President of the association, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei call on government as
well as NHIA to as a matter of urgency take steps to reimburse all facilities
monies owed them by the various insurance scheme to ensure uninterrupted health
care delivery in the country.The association also raised concern over
government failure to release the contribution of members of the association to
the Health Sector Occupational Pension Scheme. This Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei
said has kept members who are due to retire in January next year into a state
of dilemma since they have no idea of their tier 2 benefits. On the Cholera outbreak
which has claim several lives in the country, the association calls on
government to come out with a detailed comprehensive program informing
Ghanaians on how government intends to eradicate it. Meanwhile, the association
advised Ghanaians to take the necessary precautionary measures, including
proper personal hygiene to prevent the disease. Dr. Opoku-Adusei also expressed
graved worry over the escalating unsubstantiated medical advertisement on
various media platforms and call on all media houses in the country not to
allow their facilities to be used to perpetrate such criminal acts on
Ghanaians.
