Adu Asare fired as YES boss
The Chief
Executive Officer of the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) Fund, Kojo Adu Asare
has been relieved of his post. It is unclear whether Mr. Adu Asare’s sacking is
related to his role as head of the one of the Committees that executed the plan
for Ghana’s participation at the 2014 World Cup. Ghana’s appearance at the
Brazil 2014 World Cup tournament in June was hit with a series of scandals
leading to the early exit of the Black Stars from the tournament. Several
people including the Executive Director of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe called
on President Mahama to dismiss Mr. Adu Asare after he admitted his
involvement in the Black Stars’ poor showing in Brazil. The Minister for Youth
and Sports, Mahama Ayariga, confirmed to CitiNews that the President Mahama has
fired Mr. Adu Asare. The YES fund is a Government of Ghana programme initiated
by President John Dramani Mahama with a ten million Ghana cedi seed fund to
assist young Ghanaians with creative and innovative business ideas and plans to
become entrepreneurs. The YES Fund former CEO was just appointed into the
office two months ago to head the Secretariat of YES after President John
Mahama launched the initiative in August.
