A French company, Bureau International de Conseil et de
Promotion (BICP), is to recycle waste for the generation of power in the
Techiman Municipality. This was announced by Mr Philip Oppong Amponsah,
Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, when he presented 11 refuse containers to
be sited in some principal areas in the Municipality. The assembly had signed a
Memorandum of Understanding with the company for the project to commence after
the feasibility studies had been completed. Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV,
Techimanhene and Nana Baffour Asare, Bamirehene, had, consequently, released a
20-acre land for the project. The assembly procured the containers, valued at
about GHC7,000 to improve the sanitation situation in the Municipality. Nine
more are expected. Mr Amponsah said waste disposal was a major challenge for
the Municipality, which generated 200 tonnes to 300 tonnes of waste. He said to
help avert an outbreak of communicable diseases in the area, the Assembly was
working assiduously to improve access to potable water in the various
communities.
