Lingbinsi, a local community within the North Gonja District
in the Northern Region has been connected to the national power grid network. The
move which is under the implementation of the Rural Electrification Programme
(REP) up-north is part of efforts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC),
government to connect dozens of deprived communities to the national power
grid. The project was commissioned by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the
Daboya/Mankarigu constituency, Mr Abudu Nelson. The MP in an address to
commission the facility expressed his delight for the successful completion of
the electricity project. He hinted that the provision of electricity for them
was a step to making real the massive development intended for them, under the
NDC government. He thus assured of the earnest move underway to hook more towns
and communities who have not yet been connected to the national grid in the
constituency. The inhabitants were thankful for the project to see the light of
the day, but pleaded with government for an immediate intervention on the poor
condition of their roads especially the Daboya-Lingbinsi stretch. It is
reported that the stretch is currently not in a palatable state for smooth
transportation, as drivers and commuters who mostly ply the road spend
unnecessary long hours to get to their destination. The fears are that the
situation at hand could become worse when the rains set in, hence the need for
urgent attention.
