The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale Mr. Abdul Hanan Gundadow says the Tamale Metro assembly is advancing steadily in the street naming exercise and hopes to meet the deadline by the directive of the President. The Assembly has today commenced erecting directional sign post in 150 major streets in the Tamale Metropolis.  The streets names include, Pagsara, Gulkpegu, Lamashegu, Dakpema, Modern city, Tuffour, North industry, Rotary, Norrip, Nyaniba Streets and more. According to the MCE, the assembly had consultation with the chiefs, opinion leaders and stakeholders where they arrived with these names which are both existing and new names. Mr Gundaadow said, the street naming exercise also involve property numbering where every house in the metropolis will be numbered. He said the exercise will be a continuous one and stressed that though the Assembly will complete naming the 150 major streets today, allies streets will also be named soon. The MCE added that all billboards which are around the place of the directional sign post will be vacated to ensure that strangers in town can see the streets names to get to their destination. He however noted that, financial constraint is the major obstacle crippling the exercise. Meanwhile, Zabzugu District Assembly in the Northern Region completed the street naming and property numbering project. The exercise went through series of consultations with stakeholders to obtain the names of streets, which were approved by the District Statutory Planning Committee, following the procurement of the sign posts for the exercise. The ultimatum however ends on September 30, 2014.
