Light Foundation on Ebola awareness campaign in Northern-Ghana





The light Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Health has extended its Ebola awareness campaign to the Northern region. The foundation which seeks to educate people on the deadly Ebola virus paid a visit to the Traditional leaders, opinion leaders and Faith base organization's in the region. The awareness campaign, according to the organization, will be done by providing critical community based education and sensitization programs, starting with communities along the Western, Eastern and Northern borders of the country. The organization has since visited the Volta, Central, Eastern and Western regions of Ghana. The organization which was set up in 2008 geared towards providing leverage to under privilege communities through the providing of portable drinking water and evangelizing by building mosques in muslim dominated communities across Ghana. Sheikh Abdul Wahab Sufi, the Public Relation Officer of the Light Foundation during a visit to Muslim clergy in Tamale said Ebola is a deadly virus hence the need for educating the public on how to protect themselves against the deadly virus in case of any possible outbreak in the country. Sheikh Zakaria Saeed, a Muslim Clergy in the Northern region called on all Muslims and non-Muslim to support spread the word to prevent the virus from entering the country. He also appealed to stakeholders and other organizations to come out and support the course. Latest figures released by the World Health Organization suggests that the total cases had risen to 3069, with 1552 deaths in four West African countries including Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and  Sierra  Leone. On Thursday, World Health Organization (WHO) predicted the disease could afflict more than 20,000 almost seven times the current number of reported cases before it could be brought under control.
