Government has appointed Dr. Prosper Akambong as the Chief Executive Officer
of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). Dr. Prosper Akambong was the Acting CEO of since
Dr. Ken Sagoe retired as the CEO of the THH on 20th September last
year. The board chairman of the hospital, Dr. Iddrisu Muntawakil announced that
Dr. Prosper Akambong has been confirmed as the substantive CEO of the Tamale
Teaching Hospital during a news conference at the Hospital on wednesday. As a
major referral health facility serving the three regions of the north, the
Tamale Teaching Hospital has been without a substantive CEO for almost a year.
This created room for several interest groups within and outside to mount
pressure on President John Mahama to appoint a substantive CEO for the
hospital. Dr. Akambong was appointed
after the Public Service Commission vetted seven applicants who applied for the
Chief Executive position of the Hospital. Delighted Dr. Akambong told Fiila
news that besides the wrangling that the staff of the hospital are
facing, the interest of the hospital must always be placed above all interests
in other to achieve the hospital’s objectives. Meanwhile, a youth group calling
itself the Founders Club of the NDC in the Northern region is expressing worry
over his appointment. The youth group chairman in a statement copied to Fiila
News a while ago indicates that both the CEO and the board of the hospital are
incompetent in managing the affairs of the hospital.
