New CEO appointed for Tamale Teaching Hospital

Government has appointed Dr. Prosper Akambong as the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). Dr. Prosper Akambong was the Acting CEO of since Dr. Ken Sagoe retired as the CEO of the THH on 20th September last year. The board chairman of the hospital, Dr. Iddrisu Muntawakil announced that Dr. Prosper Akambong has been confirmed as the substantive CEO of the Tamale Teaching Hospital during a news conference at the Hospital on wednesday. As a major referral health facility serving the three regions of the north, the Tamale Teaching Hospital has been without a substantive CEO for almost a year. This created room for several interest groups within and outside to mount pressure on President John Mahama to appoint a substantive CEO for the hospital.  Dr. Akambong was appointed after the Public Service Commission vetted seven applicants who applied for the Chief Executive position of the Hospital. Delighted Dr. Akambong told Fiila news that besides the wrangling that the staff of the hospital are facing, the interest of the hospital must always be placed above all interests in other to achieve the hospital’s objectives. Meanwhile, a youth group calling itself the Founders Club of the NDC in the Northern region is expressing worry over his appointment. The youth group chairman in a statement copied to Fiila News a while ago indicates that both the CEO and the board of the hospital are incompetent in managing the affairs of the hospital.
