Chief Executive Officer of Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr. Prosper Akambong, has
appealed to the health minister to set up a reference laboratory in the
northern sector to take care of some of the emerging diseases. According to the CEO, the time lapses in diagnosis could lead to rapid spread of the
disease if every sample is to be transfer to Noguchi memorial institute. Dr.
Akambong said the reference laboratory will cater for the northern sector,
suggesting that the reference laboratory could be set up either in Navrongo or
Kintampo to help ease the pressure on Noguche. He was speaking to the minister
of health, Dr. Kweku Agyeman Mensah when he was touring the three region of the
North to assess the preparedness of health officials at the various hospitals
to deal with any potential case of the deadly Ebola virus. The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) is one
of the hospitals government directed for an Ebola Isolation centers to be set
up. Upon completion, the three national isolation centers are expected to
be fitted with technical and personal protective equipments (PPE’s) to
deal with the situation in the instance of an outbreak. Minister of Health, Dr.
Kweku Agyemang Mensah in an interaction with officials at the isolation center
at the Tamale Teaching hospital committed more funding for the rehabilitation
of the facility. He also commended health officials in the region for the
efforts in fighting the Ebola virus.
