Tamale Chief Call on gov’t to reconstruct Tamale landfill site



The Chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpemah Alhassan Dawuni has called on government to reconstruct the Tamale landfill site since the facility is now a dumpsite with its attendant’s problems. According to Naa Dakpemah, 30 percent to 60 percent of all solid waste in the Tamale metropolis remains uncollected. He added that less than 50 percent of the population in the metropolis is provided with sanitation and waste service. The secretary of the Chief, Mohammed Rashid made this know during the launch of the Dakpemah youth in sanitation campaign geared towards enhance good sanitation in the metropolis. It’s also aims at ensuring that sanitation related disease are curtail in the Metropolis. The Chief however urged his fellow chiefs, government, Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society Organizations championing good sanitation and environmental protection to facilitate the process by showing commitment and seriousness towards fighting poor sanitation and indiscriminate disposal in the city. He added that residents of the metropolis have the opportunity to induce a permanent change themselves in the environment. Meanwhile, sources close to Fiila News say the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly huge sums of monies in waste management in the metropolis.
