DCE calls on govt to construct a bridge in Daboya

The District Chief Executive for North Gonja district, Sorku Yawuza has called on government to construct a bridge across the White Volta in the district which is the only solution to prevent capsizing of boats in the area. He said the bridge if constructed will serve as a multipurpose function and also help prevent disaster as well as boost socio-economic activities in the area. According to DCE, the bridge when constructed, will also serve as an alternative route from the Northern region to the Upper East region. The DCE made this called during an interaction with Fiila News when the marine police from Accra came to reinforce the search for persons who got drowned when a boat capsized in the White Volta at Daboya.  The Tamale-Tolon-Daboya route is 30 killometers whiles that of Tamale-Busunu-Daboya is 130 killometers hence the reason why commuters prefer to use the shorter route despite the dangers involved.  He said in the interim the assembly will provide life jackets for persons crossing the river as well as implement a by-law which will prevent anyone with life jacket from crossing the river. Mr. Yawuza added that the assembly will also provide a structure at the riverbanks to ensure that passengers wait there comfortably in case it is raining so to avoid future occurrence of the incident. Meanwhile, out of the 13 persons on board, 9 are rescue, 3 dead and 1 still missing.
