The
Tamale Metropolitan Assembly will soon be developing a haulage terminal in the
metropolis to help ease the stress drivers of heavy duty trucks who ply through
the city go through in getting parking space especially at night. The haulage
terminal would embody a parking space, service station and a recreational
center to serve not only the drivers but for the people of Tamale can also go
for socialization. This according to the Mayor of Tamale Abdul-Hanan Rahman
Gundado, would help generate more revenue to enhance the developmental agenda
of the assembly. Mr. Abdul-Hanan was
speaking at the third ordinary meetings of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly a
while ago at the Tamale sports stadium. The Metropolitan Chief executive noted
that its’ becoming difficult for the assembly to mobilize revenue through the
traditional system or sources of revenue mobilization such as property rates
and market rates. He is optimistic adopting proper investment in the medium to
long term the assembly would be raking in more revenue, hence undertaking more
developmental projects to leverage the citizenry. Meanwhile, the Environment
and Sanitation Committee in the assembly has been charged to provide embossment
for vehicles of private waste management operators to serve as checks on their
activities and also provide revenue for the assembly.
