Action Aid Ghana, an international Non–Governmental
Organization has presented furniture valued at GH¢ 92,000 to some deprived
schools in the Upper East Region. The furniture included 700 dual desks, 40
teacher’s chairs and 30 teacher’s tables. Some of the beneficiary schools are
the Zebilla and Zabugu Primary Schools in the Bawku West District, the
Widantenga Primary School in the Bawku Municipal and Tinzug Primary School in
the Talensi District. The Bawku West District benefited from 331 dual desks, 12
teacher’s tables, 13 teacher’s chairs whilst the Talensi District had 163 dual
desk, seven teacher’s tables and 11teacher’s chairs. The Bawku Municipal got
206 dual desks, 11teacher’s tables and 16 teachers’ chairs. The Country
Director of Action Aid Ghana, Mr. Sumaila Abdul-Rahman, who presented the
items, stated that the gifts were made based on needs assessment of the schools
in these Districts, where it has been established that most of the pupils laid
on their stomachs to write, hence the donation. He noted that the Bawku West
District was the birth place of AAG and indicated that AAG would continue to
partner government to accelerate the development of the Region.
