Oye Lithur to challenge Nii Lantey Vanderpuye

Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Odododiodoo constituency in the Greater Accra Region, are reportedly encouraging Nana Oye Lithur to wrestle power from incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye. The youth have started putting up posters and banners of Nana Oye in communities within the constituency; some of which have surfaced on social media. It is unclear yet if Oye Lithur is aware of the developments and whether she is even interested in contesting for the seat during the 2016 general elections. When contacted the Greater Accra Chairman of the NDC, Ade Coker, he said he is “unaware of such intentions by the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection. Ade Coker however said he is trying to reach Nana Oye Lithur for clarification on the matter. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye was declared winner of the hotly-contested Odododiodio Constituency seat during the 2012 general elections after winning the seat with overwhelming percentage of votes cast. He polled 45, 967 to retain the seat for his party while his New Patriotic Party (NPP) contender, Victor Okaikoi came second after polling 26,269. The seat was originally occupied by Ebenezer Nii Tackey Commey also of the NDC. Attempts to reach Mrs Lithur for comments have so far proved futile.
