The Tolon District Director of the Ghana Health Service,
Hajia Sophia Mahama has expressed concern about the increasing cases of
snakebites in the area. She revealed that the district health post continued to
record the highest cases of snake bites. She described the situation as a major
health hazard which needed to be urgently treated. According her, the Tolon
health post lacked anti-snake serum to handle these cases for which reason
victims are usually referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). She also
pointed out that health service providers in the area were bedeviled with a
myriad of challenges. Hajia Sophia Mahama made this known at a
presentation of four hospital beds and an appreciable quantity of anti-snake
serum to the Tolon health post. The Member of Parliament for Tolon Hon. Wahab
Suhuyini Wumbei made the donation. Hajia Sophia Mahama commended the Tolon
Legislator for his support but made a passionate appeal to government, civil
society organizations and philanthropists to assist the Tolon district health
post. She maintained that the Tolon health post needed adequate materials
especially anti snake serum to save lives. The Tolon MP, Hon. Wahab Suhuyini
Wumbei said part of his common fund was used to finance the donation. He
reaffirmed his commitment to partner with other stakeholders to provide quality
health care services to his constituents. Hon. Wahab Suhuyini Wumbei also
promised to deepen his collaboration with the authorities of the District
Assembly to improve the living conditions of residents of Tolon. The Tolon
District Chief Executive, Abubakari Seidu showed appreciation for the MP’s
assistance.
