Ghana’s Inspector General of
Police, Mohammed Alhassan has been appointed President of Inspector General of
Police in the ECOWAS sub-region. The announcement was made in Lome, Togo, where
ECOWAS Security Chiefs are holding a meeting. Mr. Alhassan will lead the police chiefs in West Africa for the next two years
after his Ivorian colleague, Bredou Mbia. Issues of terrorism, cross-border
crime and the deadly Ebola disease took a center stage at the ECOWAS security
chiefs meeting on Saturday which was also chaired by Ghana’s Interior Minister
Mark Woyongo. In other developments, Mr. Mark Woyongo has called on all member
states not to hide information from each other if they could achieve their
goals. He said the increasing challenges militating against regional peace and
stability calls for the need for member countries to present an effective
mechanism for regional integration in the area of security and crime.
