The President of the
Conference of the Heads of Special Schools, Charles Gbekle has promised the
release of feeding grants to special schools by October 10, 2014. This
statement was made as an apology for the delay of the disbursement of funds.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Gbekle explained; the funds could not be disbursed
by the end of September as earlier promised because, certain unforeseen factors
came up, hindering the release of funds by government. Due to the lack of
funds, children at the special schools live on insufficient food supply,
courtesy the various heads of schools. The schools owe food suppliers
since the previous term and this has significantly affected the amount of food
given to the children a day. He mentioned he had contacted the headquarters of
the Ghana Education Service and voiced out the challenges the school heads had
been facing to put food on the table for the children since the beginning
of the term.
