One
of Ghana’s most notorious armed robbers Ayi Ayittey, also Known as Ataa Ayi has
publicly expressed remorse about the crimes that landed him in jail. He said in
an interview from prison, the one hardened criminal who is currently serving
160 years jail term told reporters at the prisons, is now repent and come to
regret his criminal acts. Ataa Ayi therefore advised fellow criminals to change
their way of life. Mr. Ataa Ayi was interacting with the media during the
interior minister’s tour of the Ankarfo Prisons. Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Mark Wayongo says the
notorious armed robber may be considered for pardon if he continues to be of
good behavour. The Interior Minister, Mark Wayongo also disclosed that
government has received a 500, 000 Euro loan to decongest prisons across the

Development, in a bid to discourage the illegal use of mobile phones in the
country’s prison centers, authorities at the Ankafo Prisons are going to make
it more easier for inmates to make and receive phone calls. Hitherto inmates
have not been allowed to communicate with the outside world, a situation which
is left to the illegal use of mobile phones often smuggled into the cells.
Controller General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Matilda Baa Tawiah however
said each prison block at Ankafo will have a table phone to enable the inmates
stay in touch with relatives and friends. She said the service will be
replicated in all the country’s prisons.
