NHIA workers threaten strike over poor conditions

Workers of National Health Insurance Authority across the country are likely to declare a strike in the coming days over poor conditions of service. Senior staff members say all attempts to negotiate with management have failed. According to the workers, government has introduced a biometric system with no logistics to work with and that explains the many queues that have been forming at the various National Health Insurance Offices. He said that the staff have been working overtime with no compensation and with no idea when the 2014 salaries would be adjusted. The workers lamented that several calls for negotiations have fallen on deaf ears. The workers were to declare a strike last week but after a meeting with National Executive Council a letter was rather produced to their mother union-UNIGOV to lead the struggle. The workers are therefore asking the union to quickly take action or they will be forced to proceed on strike.
