The
National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reopen nominations for its regional
executive elections after scrapping some ambiguous guidelines for the
elections. The Northern Regional Treasurer of the Party and Director of
Elections, Tanko Rashid-Computer made this known in a statement posted on his
facebook wall yesterday. According to the statement, the Northern Regional
Secretariat of the NDC has reopen nominations for the upcoming regional
conference from Monday 27th October 2014 at the Party Regional Secretariat,
Tamale for five (5) working days. The said nominations shall be closed at 5 PM
on Friday 31st October 2014. It added that nominations forms are sold at 100
Ghana cedis. Prospective applicants according to the statement, shall be proposed
by one person, seconded by two people, witnessed by two others and endorsed by
one NDC member of good standing in each of the 31 Constituencies in the region.
Vetting of aspirants, Rashid-computer said, shall be announced in due course. The
delay of the party’s regional executive election is as a result of a lawsuit
filed against the party and its
executives in September by Mr. Linus Njonolah for
overstepping their mandate. Mr. Linus alleged that the executives and other members of the party’s
hierarchy were using their authority to disqualify some party members from taking
part in the impending regional elections which was supposed to be held in
September. Interestingly, however, a Kumasi High Court today granted
a joint motion filed by the party and the plaintiff, to discontinue the case
after the defendant agreed to scrap the infamous guidelines referred to many as
Ebola Clauses.
