The Tamale metropolitan assembly is to embark on series of measures to improve the poor sanitation situation in the metropolitan area. Among the measures are evacuating refuse dumps, monthly clean up exercise, encouraging residents to adopt household latrines and establishment of a sanitation fun as well as construction of a compost plants in the metropolis. Sanitation challenges are banes on the assembly recent times as refuse containers are left unattended to in various suburbs in the city. The metropolis has since lost its past glory of being the cleanness city in the country. But in an exclusive interview with Fiila News, the Mayor of Tamale Abdul-Hanan Rahman Gundado is optimistic with the measures, the city will regain its glory. Many residents in the metropolis have been bickering over the poor sanitation situation in recent time. Last week, residents of Gbalai and Kulaa in the Tamale north constituency threatened to mount road blocks to stop any vehicle that will be bringing waste to the landfill site following the Tamale Metro Assembly’s refusal to properly maintain its landfill site located in the area. Meanwhile, the assembly has declared war to clampdown all illegal waste management companies operating in the metropolis.
