The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Northern
Regional internal election is getting heated. Six persons including the
incumbent Chief Sofo Azorka are competing for the regional Chairmanship
position. The other five seeking to unseat Chief Sofo Azorka are Ibrahim
Alhassan Boham a contractor, Abu Iddrisu Kpenaa a chief, Alhaji Ibrahim
Alhassan Libron a contractor, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulai Mobila also a chief and
Mohammed Sumani Zakari, son of the late NDC Northern Regional Chairman,
Alhaji Sumani Zakaria. Unlike elsewhere in the southern part of the country
where some NDC constituency and regional elections are in limbo following law
suits, no threat of litigation has been brought against that of the Northern
Regional contest. All aspirants for the various positions are Kris Crossing the
length and breadth of the region meeting the delegates. One of the six Chairman
aspirants, Ibrahim Alhassan Boham has suggested the need to expand the party’s
Electoral College across board. This in his estimation will give all card-bearing members the opportunity to
elect competent executives at all levels to represent the party. Ibrahim
Alhassan Boham, suggested the next Northern Regional NDC Chairman should be an elite
who can well represent the region on any political platform.
