Tamale Corn Millers Association increases service charges

Residents of Tamale will henceforth have to pay extra for milling grains of all kinds. This follows an upward adjustment in the service charges by grinding mill operators in the Tamale Metropolis. The Tamale Corn Millers Association has attributed the new service charges to the continual adjustment of electricity tariffs in line with the automatic adjustment formula. The Association has also complained about the rising cost of spare parts. Regardless of the grains and other foodstuffs, the new service charge for grinding one bowl of maize is GHC1, 00 which previously was GH50 pesewas. For grinding one bag of all types of cereals and grains, the service charge is GH20 which previously was GHC14, 00. One will have to pay GH12, 00 for grinding one big basin of groundnuts against the old charge of GHC8, 00. Operator of the Kukuo grinding mill, Sulemana Abdul Razak told Citi News the new service charges were non-negotiable. He said the decision was arrived at a meeting with leadership of the Tamale Corn Millers Association. Most Tamale residents especially chop bar operators are unhappy with the upward adjustment.
