Public sector workers unhappy with unionized bodies strike

Some public sector workers in the Northern regional Capital, Tamale are not enthused over the decision by their mother unions to embark on a strike in protest against government for their tier 2 pension scheme. The workers attested that government may have its own loopholes as well as labour unions, but workers need to trust government since the decision affects innocent people in the country. Speaking to Fiila News on condition of anonymity, a teacher at the Police Barracks Junior High school said some of the workers including himself are not happy there is labour unrest. The teacher opined that, as citizens, they need to be patriotic.  Twelve labour unions in the country on October 22 declared an indefinite strike in protest for their tier 2 pension allowance. The unionized bodies are rejecting government's imposition of the Pension Alliance Trust, and also calling on the government to allow the full operationalization of the Public Sector Pension Scheme. Meanwhile, authorities of Police Barracks Junior High School have made arrangements for final years students to attend classes in preparation towards their impending BECE exams next year. In an interview with Master Charles, a form three student, he lauded the decision by the teachers to prepare them ahead of the exam. He also lamented over the impact of the strike fearing they might not complete their entire syllabuses before the exam day.
