The chief of Tamale, Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan has implored resident of the metropolis to inculcate the spirit of communalism to help make their environment clean to prevent sanitation related disease like cholera. According Naa Dakpema, the sense of communal spirit brings about unity and development among citizens of diverse religious, political and ethnic background. Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan was speaking in an exclusive interview with Fiila News when he joined the people of the Tamale to commemorate the maiden national sanitation day. The chief was accompanied by his sub chiefs, kinsmen and other opinion leaders in the metropolis. The exercise which was described as a success, saw the security, opinion leaders, representatives of various political parties, heads of institutions among others participating to ensure an environment clean society. Nana Dakpema Dawuni appealed to residents to endeavour to clean their environment since government alone cannot foot the cost of sanitation in the country. He added that volunteerism is much desired looking at the current economic situation of the country, hence the need for citizens to sacrifice. As the directive by local government ministry encapsulates all Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country to roll out monthly cleanup exercise, the Sagnarigu district assembly also played a major role in ridding their district of filth. Addressing the public, the chief of Sagnarigu, Naa Abdulain Yakubu Gunbenkpang urged authorities to ensure that garbage’s that are collected are disposed to avoid the outbreak of any sanitation related epidemic.
