Hundreds of Muslims in the Wa municipality in the Upper West
Region on Friday observed special prayers at the Wa central mosque for Ghana
against the deadly Ebola disease. The prayers which lasted for about 2 hours
were at the instance of the leadership of the Muslim community in Wa, in their
bid to contribute to the overall national effort to stop
the outbreak of the deadly disease in Ghana. Dr. Alhaji Sulemana Haroon Bakuri,
the Imam of the mosque led the prayers. He called on Muslims throughout Ghana
to pray for scientist and researchers in their bid to end the spread of the
disease and for God to protect Ghana from the distress of the virus in the
event of an outbreak. Dr. Alhaji Sulemana admonished Muslims to pray for the
president and the entire leadership of Ghana so that God will grant them
courage and high sense of coordination. He appealed to all religious bodies to
also organize prayers against the killer disease. Recently, Archbishop
Nicholas Duncan-Williams said the “demonic”
Ebola Virus Disease had targeted Ghana as its next destination by November.
Ghana has tested more than 100 suspected cases at the Noguchi Memorial
Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) but none has proven positive.
Duncan-Williams said fervent prayer and fasting are imperative to prevent an
outbreak in Ghana.
