Violent clashes in Wa in the Upper West Region over a parcel of
land, have left eight people injured and several properties destroyed. According
to ASP Edmond Nyamekye, Police Public Relations Officer for the Upper West
regional command, 21 persons have been arrested in connection with the
violence. The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana and the
heads of the various security services in the region have been
engaging the heads of the two factions to allow peace to prevail. Having
been Ghana's Ambassador to Egypt at one point in his political career, the minister said violence was never the way
to resolve disagreements. He appealed to the feuding factions to let peace
prevail. Meanwhile, security personnel in the Wa
township have promised to keep the peace in the area. Three cars, a house and a
number of motorbikes were burnt in the process. The two factions Jejediyiri and Dondoli have
been on each other’s throat until Monday, November 17, when the issue
escalated.
