President
of the Ghana Animal Science Association, Dr. Siegfried Affedzie Obresi has called
on the youth to venture into poultry production to boost their livelihoods.
According to him, there is a lot to gain in animal production hence, the need
for the unemployed youth to venture into the poultry business. Dr. Siegfried
Affedzie Obresi made the called during the 32nd biennial conference
of the Association in Tamale. The conference which was under the theme “intensification
on domestic animal production through modern techniques, the role of the youth”,
brought together member scientist from both National and regional associations
to create a platform to share ideas, and fashioned out the way forward as well
as learn new technologies for animal production. He advised the youth to adopt
the intensive system of rearing animals which he described as cost effective
for starters. He however discouraged farmers from practicing the extensive
system rearing livestock’s to prevent strange disease from attacking the
animals. The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna in his
address reiterated government’s commitment to youth empowerment in the country.
He advised the youth to take advantage of the youth Enterprise Support (YES)
fund to improve their livelihood.
