National executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
are to meet the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Alhassan, to
agree plans to provide adequate security for Sunday’s special delegates’
congress. This was disclosed by the General Secretary of the party, Kwabena
Agyapong, after a steering committee meeting at the party headquarters in Accra
last Monday. Security at polling centres across the country is high on the
agenda. He stated that meeting with the IGP, will make him liaise with the
Regional Chairmen and the National officers who have been assigned to the
various regions to make sure that adequate security is provided. The NPP is set
to hold a special delegates congress on Sunday, with the aim of pruning the
seven candidates contesting for the flagbearership slot to five. The Electoral Commission
(EC) will conduct the elections which will take place simultaneously in all ten
regions of the country with about 787 delegates expected to cast their votes.
These delegates are made up of Constituency Chairmen, Regional Executives,
Members of Parliament, National Executive Committee members, Funding members,
Members of the Council of Elders. Ten polling stations will be mounted in each
region and an additional one at the party headquarters. Polls will be opened at
8AM and close at 3PM.
