Residents
in the Northern region will soon benefit from a current account dubbed “Koowa
accounts” specially designed to enhance Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within
the region. This current account has minimal charges on all business
transactions without incurring lost within the banking sector. Deputy Managing Director of UT Bank, Pearl
Esua-Mensah made this announcement during a launch of the Tamale branch of the
Bank. UT Bank, one of the top 10 banks
on the Ghana Club 100 list has twenty-nine (29) branches across the country.
Residents will also have the opportunity to enjoy products such as "Koowa
accounts, Asset Finance Scheme, mobile banking services among others. Mrs.
Pearl says opening a branch in Tamale is crucial and strategic since Tamale is
the fastest growing city in West Africa is the obvious choice. According the
Deputy Managing Director of UT Bank, they have assessed the business
environment and have come out with product and service design to cater for the
business needs of residents. Since its operations for the past five years as a
non-banking financial services provider (NBFI), in Ghana, the bank has focused
on Small Medium Enterprises and indigenous businesses. Despite its concern to
attract more customers, UT Bank has been fulfilling it corporate social
responsibility by investing and supporting local communities and
underprivileged societies. Understanding the business terrain in the northern region,
Mrs. Pearl says the UT Bank is partnering with EDAIF, USAID among other
organizations in the Agricultural sector to give farmers the opportunity to
access credit facilities. This she says will help farmers in the region to
produce for both the local market and for export.
