Residents of Tamale charged to change their attitudes towards sanitation



The Chief of Tamale, Naa-Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan has charged the residents of Tamale to rethink and change their attitude towards environment and sanitation.  According to Naa Dakpema, it sudden him when he wakes up to see the current poor sanitation situation in the metropolis. He tasked all to endevour to take good care of the environment since it a habitat for all. The Secretary of the chief, Mr. Mohammed Rashid said this on his behalf at the launch of the Dakpemah Youth in Sanitation Campaign at his palace. The Chief also proposed mechanisms for controlling the poor sanitation by calling on the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to arrest and prosecute persons who violates sanitation by-laws or liters the environment. Naa Dakpema urged the chiefs, opinion leader’s government and Non Governmental Organization to show much commitment and seriousness towards fighting poor sanitation in the city. Meanwhile, the Tamale Metro assembly has indicated its readiness to clear the city out of filth to ensure a cleaner environment. Over fifty-one people lost their lives out of 6,179 cases recorded in the Greater Accra region alone since the outbreak of the deadly cholera, which is related to poor sanitation.
