Local Government and Rural Development Minister, says all
district assemblies will soon be provided with waste collection equipment to
address the sanitation challenges in the country. Mr. Julius Debrah stated that
plans are afoot to procure more waste collection equipment for onward
distribution to the assemblies. Unhappy about the recent cholera outbreak in
the major cities, he gave the assurance that government will tackle the
situation. He dropped the hint during his recent working tour of some selected
districts in the Northern Region. Accompanied by the Mayor of Tamale, the
Minister inspected some ongoing projects in the Tamale Metropolis. These
included the Aboabo supermarket and the affordable housing scheme at Gbalahagu,
a suburb of Tamale. Mr. Debrah asked the Mayor of Tamale Abdul Hanan Gundado to
include an ultra-modern car park in upgrading the Aboaboo supermarket. He took
the advantage of the visit and monitors the Electoral Commission limited voter
registration exercise. He visited polling station in the Tamale Metro Area and
by extension to the Savelugu-Natong district. The Local Government minister was
impressed with the incident free registration exercise.
