The regent of Dagbon Kampakuya-Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani is
appealing to business men and women in the Northern region as well as Non
Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to turn their attention to the movie industry
to create employments. According to the Regent, the industry is growing steadily
in his observation as there is significant improvement in recent years, saying
a little push in capacity building would enhance their potentials hence creating
employment for the teeming unemployed youth in the region. The regent made the
appeal when the Northern Drama and Film Makers Association (NORDRAFIM) paid a
courtesy call on the regent at the Gbewa palace in Yendi to formally introduce
the association to him. The courtesy call was also part of a crusade by the
association to ensure sustainable peace in Dagbon traditional area. Kapankuya
Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani however pledged his support for the association to
fight the fight piracy which is gradually killing the industry. The President
of NORDRAFIM, Alhassan Yusaw Jahanfo was of the view that the association will
not wait when there is trouble before they run for cover, hence the need for
the visit saying, the association is pleased with the assurance given them by
the overlord of Dabgon especially on the piracy which is their topmost
challenge. The association who also visited the Kug-Naa and the Municipal Chief
Executive will make a similar visit to the Boling-Lana and other relevant
stakeholders in the region to solicit for their support. Since the emergence of
NORDRAFIM in the movie industry in the country, it has chalked myriad of
successes raging from wining nation awards and transformation of the
socio-economic status of its members as well as demystifying the wrong
perception held by people in other parts of the country towards the region.
