NEDCo to introduce Geographic Information Service

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) of the Volta River Authority (VRA) has made known its intension to start a Geographic information system (GIS) to make directions easier for their operations. Addressing a news conference in Tamale, the Acting Director of Engineering, Ing. Moses Tawiah stated that the GIS is part of a total of 50 projects that have been lined up to map infrastructure of NEDCo. Residents in Tamale have made several complains of the poor response to emergency cases as a result poor street naming. According to Ing. Moses, NEDCo is putting up a primary substation in Tamale, WA and Sunyani to help distribute power to consumers in the various regions. An amount of 3 million US dollars has been estimated for the GIS project in Tamale and Sunyani. Meanwhile, the entire projects will entail an estimated cost of 12million US dollars. With the Geographic Information System, customers can easily be located making it easier for faults to be traced on time. It will also make revenue collection easier because it will help get a better data base of all customers. An appeal was made to power consumers to exercise maximum restraint whenever they experience power outage rather than resorting to incur their wrath on workers of NEDCo.

Fusheila Community in serious need of Food

A farming community under jatong Dashei electoral area in the East Gonjo district of the Northern region Fusheila has its residents in severe need of food. The residents who are mostly farmers are unable to afford fertilizer for their farm lands in order to get good yields hence the cause of hunger in some households in the community. A visit to the community indicates that residents faces a lot more problems besides hunger some of which include poor road network, unavailability to portable drinking water, school, electricity  and health care services among others. In an interview with the chief of the community Naa Sulemana Nindow whose household is also in that situation, stated that most pressing need is how to feed the family and to take care of the health needs of his wife who has been sick for more than four months until the situation normalizes. School pupils in this community collapse at school due to non-availability of food in their household for days and another student lost her life due to the inability of his parents to renew her health insurance card to seek health care. Fushiela which is about 30min drive from Tamale town see its residents commute 200km to Sankpalla the nearby village to seek health care. The community has a total population of 372 and most residents now resort to selling their animals to feed their family. Speaking to the assemblyman for the area Hon. Inusah Hamza Lansah stated that to earn a living a day is a great challenge to residents in the area hence the need for support from organizations and other philanthropist to help resolve their predicament.

Demonstrators hoots at deputy N-R minister as they present their petition

Demonstrators of Organized Labour in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale hooted at the deputy Northern regional minister immediately he appeared to receive their petition for onward delivery to the President of Ghana. The demonstrators used abusive words on the deputy minister to expressed their frustrations about the various policies of government that has increase workers hardship. The Deputy northern Regional minister, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini noted for being proverbial and vociferous did not get his way through today as the protesters booed at him. However, Organized labour is protesting against the difficulties the economy is facing and are demanding immediate action from government to address the challenges. They rejected pleas from the government to suspend the action since efforts were underway to introduce policies to manage the situation. Similar demonstrations are being held across the ten regional capitals simultaneously to offer the workers the opportunity to vent their frustrations at government's handling of the economy. Presenting their petition to the Deputy Northern Regional Minister Alhaji ABA Fuseini for onward delivery to government on behalf of Organized Labour, CLOSAG Northern Regional Secretary, Ali Anafo catalogue several economic challenges that the country is currently bedeviled with under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama. He mentioned the continues depreciation of the cedi, the nominal income stagnate, among others. Addressing leadership of the protestors, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister Alhaji indicated that the Mahama led administration is an allied of the working people and will do all things possible in its to stabilize the economic situation in order to improve socio-economic conditions of the masses. He expressed the hope that organized labour will sit down with government to see the way forward for better Ghana.

Inmates of Tamale Prison celebrate Eid with Muslims

The inmates of Tamale prisons were not left out in the Eid-Fitr celebration as a philanthropist reached out to them to be part of the celebration. Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu, Deputy Director of Ghana Road Fund donated a total of 250 packs of cooked rice and assorted drinks to the inmates. In his address, he stated that he believes in work done hence his move to reach out to the inmates. He added that Eid is not all about enjoying alone at home, but reaching out to the less privileged in society matters most. He assured the inmates of his continue support to them and urged them to keep faith in Allah as they will soon be free from the bondage.  He also urged them to desist from activities that can get them back when they finally get their freedom. Assistant Commissioner of Prisons Mr. Joseph Ayittey who received the items on behalf of the inmates thanked Alhaji Ibrahim and his team for the good works done and asked that it shouldn’t be a one day wonder. He went further to ask other benevolent organizations and philanthropists to emulate the good work of Alhaji Ibrahim Seidu, by way of reaching out to the less privileged in society.
