NUGS calls for fair investigations into Bolga SHS unrest

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) have registered its displeasure over how issues of students are handled in recent times especially in some parts of Northern Ghana. Citing the recent agitation in the Bolgatanga Senior High School which resulted in the death of a final year student, the Union said it is very important for Ghana to find a lasting solution to problems between students and school management to prevent such incidents from happening. In an interview with Citi News, the President of NUGS Prosper Dzitse insisted that the happenings were due to the lack of right channels through which to address their grievances. He said, in the southern part there is a channel of communication through which students address their issues so that when the local authority in the school is not able to handle the matter they forward it to the regional authority who work directly under the directorate of the Ghana education service and the matter will be handled at that level. He therefore called on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to thoroughly but fairly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the student. He disclosed that violence is not the solution to the problem even though the matter has not been handled.
