Authorities
of the Bolgatanga Senior High School in the Upper East Region have
closed the school following rising tension after a student died there on
Monday. Some students accused the house master, Thomas Apana of refusing to
allow them to assist their colleague who fell and sustained head injuries and
died after allegedly being chased for assembly. Senior House Master of the
school Stephen Awasnaab told Joy News’ that the decision to close the
school was arrived at after students burnt down a vehicle belonging to the
assistant house master. He was, however, uncertain when the students will be
called back to school. There was heavy security presence at the school
yesterday afternoon following rioting by students who were protesting the death
of a colleague. The deceased person reportedly suffered serious head
injuries after falling badly. He was among many students who were chased by
their housemaster. He died shortly on arrival at the hospital. The accused house master has, however, denied claims
by the students and accused the students of framing him.
