The
Ghana Education Service (GES) will terminate the appointment of all untrained
teachers in the Brong Ahafo region at the end of 2014 to enable it verify the
untrained teachers’ certificate. This year alone, the Asunafo North and the
Asutifi South Directorate of Education in the region dismissed about 96 pupil
teachers for using fake certificates to teach for two years. This prompted the
Ghana Education service to instruct all the directors to dismiss them to
re-apply for re appointment. The Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Education,
Dr. George Adjei Haney in an interview with Citi News said they have asked all teachers to reapply to enable
the directorate determine those who fraudulently had their names on their
payroll. According to him, some of the untrained teachers had fake
certificates. This is not the first time the GES has taken a
decision to terminate the appointment of teachers. In September, the GES terminated the appointment of all
pupil teachers who had failed to upgrade themselves.
The GES announced its decision of replacing the dismissed pupil teachers with
the trained ones.
